Many times, when meeting with new business owners I am faced with the task of answering the question of; Why does my business need a website? To my surprise recently I was asked this exact question by a man who has run his hardware business for many years now. What surprised me wasn’t the question really. I was more surprised to learn that one of the leading hardware stores in my region doesn’t have a website.
I soon realised that most people don’t know that creating a business website or e-commerce store is easier than ever: it doesn’t cost a fortune, you don’t have to be a coding wiz, your online store is not restricted to business hours, and it’s one of the best means of free advertising.
So, to answer this question, I saw it fit to write this blog as there are many out there who still don’t see the value of investing on a website.
A website is a window view of your business. Through this window not only can you display your services and products, but you can provide downloadable PDF instructions or short video tutorials to give hesitant customers no reason to go elsewhere to purchase.
As times change, the consumer journey has changed too. Now customers start their buying journey with research and recommendations from peers and social network connections. Numerous studies reveal that once a consumer has an idea of what they need or want, they start researching, and 72 per cent of them go online to find educational material, reviews, and testimonials, according to a recent report.
If your business doesn’t have a website acquiring a sizable market share is nothing but a wish. This gives your competition an open invitation to acquire your prospective customers.
With a website, you position your business to be visible to a wide and diverse potential customer. This means you spend far less than you would spend mailing brochures by traditional mail. Added to that an e-commerce website enables your business to sell products all the time without having to worry about closing time.
With ever-changing consumer trends one thing has remained consistent; the increase in online consumers. This is a clear indication that each business needs to invest in a website. With over 21 million online shoppers expected in 2019, having a website is no longer a luxury but a necessity. This is emphasised by the research that shows 81 per cent of consumers performs online research before making a purchase. With a robust SEO strategy, your website can be visible on Google searches, therefore increasing brand awareness.
